How much does it cost to build a web app in 2026?

A plain guide to what drives the price of a custom web app, typical budget ranges, and how to keep costs under control without cutting quality.

Guides

"How much will it cost?" is the first question almost every client asks us. The honest answer is that it depends, but that is not very helpful on its own. This guide explains what actually drives the price, gives typical ranges, and shows you how to keep spending under control.

What drives the price

The cost of a web app comes down to the time a skilled team needs to design, build, test and launch it. These are the factors that change that time the most:

  • Number of features. Every screen, form, report and integration adds work.
  • User roles. An app with customers, staff and admins needs three sets of permissions and views.
  • Integrations. Payments, maps, CRMs, accounting tools and AI services each need setup and testing.
  • Design depth. A clean standard interface costs less than a fully custom brand experience with animation.
  • Data and security needs. Health, finance and personal data need extra security work and sometimes audits.
  • Platforms. A web app plus iOS and Android apps costs more than a web app alone.

Typical budget ranges

These are the ranges we see most often for projects built by an experienced team. Your quote will depend on your exact scope.

  1. Simple app or MVP (a few core features, one user type): around $8,000 to $25,000.
  2. Growing business app (several user roles, payments, dashboards, integrations): around $25,000 to $70,000.
  3. Complex platform (marketplaces, SaaS products, heavy data or AI features): $70,000 and up.

Running costs matter too. Plan for hosting, third-party services and ongoing support. A common rule of thumb is 15 to 20 percent of the build cost per year for maintenance and small improvements.

How to keep costs under control

Start with an MVP. Launch the smallest version that solves the main problem for real users. You learn faster and spend less on features nobody uses.

Write down what success looks like. A short list of goals helps the team say no to work that does not move the business forward.

Choose proven technology. Popular frameworks such as React, Laravel and Node.js are faster to build with and easier to hire for later.

Ask for a fixed scope and weekly demos. You see progress every week and can change direction early, when changes are cheap.

Fixed price or monthly team?

A fixed price works well when the scope is clear. A dedicated team on a monthly fee works better when your product will keep growing and priorities change often. Many clients start with a fixed-price MVP and then move to a monthly team after launch.
